Mini-Europe
After the conquest of Timisoara by Prince Eugene of Savoy and the withdrawal of the Turks, the Banat was repopulated with immigrants from the dominions of the Habsburgs.
Romanians, Serbs, Jews and Hungarians were joined by Italians, French, Czechs, Slovaks, Bulgarians and Croats and, above all, German-speaking settlers. To this day, Timisoara is a cosmopolitan city characterized by the coexistence of people of different languages and religions, a "miniature Europe", so to speak.
